What is Information Fluency?
"Information fluency is the ability to critically think while engaging with, creating and utilising information and technology, regardless of the information platform or medium."
Information Fluency can be considered as both an overall competency and as a collection of knowledge and skills.
An Information Fluent student can:
- Pose questions to be answered using information
- Locate information using sophisticated search techniques to refine searches.
- Apply critical thinking skills to determine if information sources are credible
- Distinguish opinion from fact
- Interpret texts and data to build meaning
- Organise information
- Communicate information effectively to different audiences
- Respect intellectual property by referencing information sources
- Respect the privacy of others
- Navigate the digital minefield safely and responsibly as digital citizens
- Collaborate in groups and teams
- Appreciate the value of diverse perspectives
